Get started with a Website you own
If your website was a magazine, it would have a unique name on the front cover, your website would also have a unique name and is known as a Domain name or just a Domain.
The content or pages that form your magazine will need to be placed somewhere where the general public can visit to read it. This place could be a public library and theoretically, anyone in the world could visit the library to read your magazine. The content and pages of your website are placed in such a library that is always open to visitors and is known as Hosting or a Hosting server.
Domain name
The unique address of your website. Eg cuffe.net, if you have already purchased a great domain name, we will take care of getting it connected to your website. If you do not have a domain name yet we will advise you on how to obtain one. Expect to pay approximately £12.00 - £30.00 per annum to register and keep a domain name. Just one thing, take your time, try to keep it as short as you can as it will form the part of your email address after the @ symbol.
Hosting
This is where your website will live. In simple terms, it's a computer known as a server that is permanently connected to the internet. Hosting providers rent space on their servers to store your website content. When your domain name is typed into a browser the hosting server will display your website. It is important to choose a good hosting provider for the security and functionality of your website.
Creating your website
When we have a full understanding of your website requirements, we will provide you with a cost and suggested layout. During construction, your site will be offline, but you will be given a username and password to view your site as it comes together. We take care of everything including your email setup and pointing your domain name to the hosting server of your choice. We like to build your website using a CMS called Joomla! We can use other technologies if preferred by the client.
